Programme Director’s Message

The MSc Programme in Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences was established in 2006. Our mission is to offer postgraduate training to enhance students' knowledge and cutting edge research methodologies in the field of biochemistry and biomedical sciences, and skills in research, analytical and innovative thinking. This programme also prepares students for career trajectories and development in teaching, research & technical positions in academia, industry, or government.

With the combination of a strong teaching team and learning support, our programme offers a broad spectrum of courses that cover the key disciplinaries in biochemistry and biomedical sciences. These include molecular biology and biotechnology, clinical biochemistry, forensic science, biomedical engineering, genome biology and laboratory management. Practical training in methods in biochemistry and clinical biochemistry highlights the distinct features of this programme. Additionally, students can also opt for an experimental research project that will further strengthen their competence in handling scholarly research for future studies.

Before closing, I am delighted to share that five of our students are selected for Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies in 2025/26. Being recognized as one of the taught postgraduate programmes for this government funded scholarship scheme further marks the accomplishments of our programme.

Goals &

Vision

Enhance and update students' knowledge in Biochemistry and Biomedical Science

Give students a comprehensive training in the state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies used in Biochemistry and Biomedical Technology.

Provide students the skills on research, analytical and innovative thinking, in addition to the integration of theory and application

Cultivate the ability of critical thinking, a proactive and responsible attitude and efficient communication skills for high competitiveness in further study and career development

+ Achieving these, MScBBB graduates are expected to attain FIVE Programme Learning outcomes (PLOs).

At first, I wasn’t sure where this program would take me, but after completing it, I can assure you that it is worth experiencing. MSc BBB program aims to equip you with professional knowledge and research methods in Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences, from basic genetics to clinical diseases, which are all essential in Life Sciences. Most importantly, this program encourages you to explore your research interests through a research-based MSc project with the guidance of professors in the related field, which has also strengthened my determination to pursue further studies.

While at the CUHK campus, being friends with students from different cultural and educational backgrounds has fostered my sense of diversity, enhanced my understanding of various careers, and broadened my future opportunities. I am very grateful to all the professors and the supporting staff of this program, and I would recommend this program to those with strong curiosities in the Biological Sciences.
