Programme Director’s Message

The MSc Programme in Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences was established in 2006. Our mission is to offer postgraduate training to enhance students' knowledge and cutting edge research methodologies in the field of biochemistry and biomedical sciences, and skills in research, analytical and innovative thinking. This programme also prepares students for career trajectories and development in teaching, research & technical positions in academia, industry, or government.

With the combination of a strong teaching team and learning support, our programme offers a broad spectrum of courses that cover the key disciplinaries in biochemistry and biomedical sciences. These include molecular biology and biotechnology, clinical biochemistry, forensic science, biomedical engineering, genome biology and laboratory management. Practical training in methods in biochemistry and clinical biochemistry highlights the distinct features of this programme. Additionally, students can also opt for an experimental research project that will further strengthen their competence in handling scholarly research for future studies.

Before closing, I am delighted to share that five of our students are selected for Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies in 2025/26. Being recognized as one of the taught postgraduate programmes for this government funded scholarship scheme further marks the accomplishments of our programme.

Goals &

Vision

Enhance and update students' knowledge in Biochemistry and Biomedical Science

Give students a comprehensive training in the state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies used in Biochemistry and Biomedical Technology.

Provide students the skills on research, analytical and innovative thinking, in addition to the integration of theory and application

Cultivate the ability of critical thinking, a proactive and responsible attitude and efficient communication skills for high competitiveness in further study and career development

+ Achieving these, MScBBB graduates are expected to attain FIVE Programme Learning outcomes (PLOs).

Enrolling in the MSc. Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences program at CUHK has been a transformative experience for me. As a person with a biosciences background, I found that the curriculum of the program effectively bridged the gap between fundamental molecular biology and clinical applications, expanding my academic horizons. And what stood out most was the hands-on laboratory training and the invaluable research project. Working alongside supportive professors, I gained academic poster-making skills and developed a rigorous scientific mindset. This program not only solidified my passion for biomedical research, but also equipped me with the confidence to pursue further studies in this field. I warmly welcome future science students to join the CUHK BBMS family, it will absolutely live up to your expectations!
