Programme Director’s Message

The MSc Programme in Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences, established in 2006, is dedicated to providing high-quality postgraduate training that equips students with advanced knowledge and cutting-edge research methodologies in biochemistry and biomedical sciences. Our mission is to cultivate strong analytical, research, and innovative thinking skills, preparing graduates for diverse career pathways in academia, industry, education, and government sectors.

Building on a strong foundation of teaching excellence and comprehensive learning support, the programme offers a broad and interdisciplinary curriculum. Core areas include molecular biology and genome science, clinical biochemistry, forensic science, and laboratory management. A defining feature of the programme is its emphasis on practical training, particularly in biochemical and clinical laboratory techniques, ensuring that students gain hands-on experience alongside theoretical knowledge.

Students also have the opportunity to undertake an experimental research project, allowing them to develop critical thinking and independent research skills. This experience is particularly valuable for those intending to pursue further studies or research-oriented careers.

We are proud to note that our programme continues to receive external recognition. In the 2025/26 academic year, five of our students were awarded the Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies, reflecting both the quality of our students and the strength of our training environment.

Goals &

Vision

Enhance and update students' knowledge in Biochemistry and Biomedical Science

Give students a comprehensive training in the state-of-the-art techniques and methodologies used in Biochemistry and Biomedical Technology.

Provide students the skills on research, analytical and innovative thinking, in addition to the integration of theory and application

Cultivate the ability of critical thinking, a proactive and responsible attitude and efficient communication skills for high competitiveness in further study and career development

+ Achieving these, MSBBS graduates are expected to attain FIVE Programme Learning outcomes (PLOs).

Enrolling in the MSc. Biochemical and Biomedical Sciences program at CUHK has been a transformative experience for me. As a person with a biosciences background, I found that the curriculum of the program effectively bridged the gap between fundamental molecular biology and clinical applications, expanding my academic horizons. And what stood out most was the hands-on laboratory training and the invaluable research project. Working alongside supportive professors, I gained academic poster-making skills and developed a rigorous scientific mindset. This program not only solidified my passion for biomedical research, but also equipped me with the confidence to pursue further studies in this field.
